Language replace

With the Language Replace function you can change language and/or variants for all terms in a dictionary in a single step. This is useful if, for example, when migrating terms from a language without a variant to a custom language, i.e. "eng" → "eng-us", or vice versa.

The Language Replace page is available via:

  1. Administration → Terminology → Language replace

First you select which dictionary you want to do the language replace in. The From Language and To Language lists are updated with the languages and variants for the selected dictionary.

Since it’s possible for languages to have custom names, there might be identical named items in the lists. Plain languages are therefore displayed in bold, while variants are displayed in italics.

Select an item in the From Language list which is the language or variant from which you wish to move all terms, and then select an item in the To Language list representing the language or variant to where the terms should be moved.

Click on "Move Terms…". A dialog opens where you confirm that you wish to move the terms, and then the replacement is performed. The replacement process is normally completed within a few seconds, but may take longer if you are moving several thousand terms.

No concept changes are recorded in the history for language replace operations. The concept history will display changes as if the target language always has been used for the affected terms. Neither are modification dates for concept and terms affected by the operation.
